This cosmopolitan mountain village, whose reputation needs no introduction, charms travelers from all over the world. Mont Blanc is close by, revealing its most beautiful aspects depending on the season and time of day. Alpinists from across the globe come to climb the legendary 4,810-meter summit, but for those seeking less adventure, you can still get close from the Aiguille du Midi at 3,842 meters, accessible by cable car.

In Chamonix’s pedestrian center, you’ll find all the shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment you could hope for.

In winter, the Chamonix valley offers several world-renowned ski areas. Depending on your level, we can guide you to the most suitable slopes. The iconic Vallée Blanche (a 20-kilometer off-piste route) is a must-do in Chamonix! If you wish to hire a guide, we recommend the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix
, located at the Maison de la Montagne, right next to our hotel.

For ski rentals, we have a partnership with a store just 150 meters from the hotel. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a voucher for 20% off your rental. We also provide ski lockers and boot dryers for our guests.

In summer, numerous hiking trails cater to both beginners and experienced hikers. Chamonix also offers a wide range of outdoor activities: paragliding, rafting, mountaineering, climbing… If you wish to hire a guide, we again recommend the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix.

A Bit of History…

When two young English aristocrats, William Windham and Richard Pococke, discovered the priory of “Chamouni” in 1741, they could not have imagined that their account of this small mountain village, its peaks, and glaciers would spread across Europe and the world.

Soon, wealthy tourists—mostly English—came to admire the mysterious Mer de Glace. They created a demand for local crystal hunters and valley guides, who became their companions on these explorations.

The first inn opened its doors in 1770, marking the beginning of both hospitality development and mountain ascents. The conquest of Mont Blanc by Jacques Balmat and Michel Gabriel Paccard in 1786 cemented the destiny of this small mountain town.

In 1821, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix was founded to meet the growing interest of tourists eager to explore the village amidst the glaciers.

Infrastructure followed, making the valley more accessible. The legend of Chamonix was born.
